I love painting/refinishing furniture. Before I had a blog, I did it a lot. I bought furniture on Kijiji and painted it, I painted old dressers that were hand me downs and I basically painted everything the same white color with black fixtures. I never thought to take before and after pictures because…well, why would I ever need them, right?!!! I curse myself now for not doing that so that I can share the transformations of the some pretty ugly furniture that turned into some of my favorite pieces.
The little night stand with the lamp and framed quote, that came with a huge dresser, mirror and hutch and I got all four pieces on Kijiji for $60. When the guy delivered it (for a fee) he said he was just about to throw everything out to the road because he never imagined that someone would want to pay money for it. It’s all Canadian made and very solid, I however, cannot imagine throwing out anything of that kind of quality.
So here are some of the pieces of furniture that I’ve re-done over the years out of necessity and my need to find a cheaper way to furnish my home. I hope you like them as much as I do.
This dresser belonged to my parents so it has sentimental value. It was a hunter green and was in need of some TLC, I still haven’t gotten around to putting handles on it but I love the look of it just the way that it is.
This is the hutch that came with my Kijiji buy. I plan on painting it, just haven’t found the right color yet. A fellow blogger in Moncton front porch mercantile is opening up a shop in November and I’m hoping to get down there to find the right color of Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint to jazz up that boring hutch.
The inside of the hutch, where I store my favorite dishes. Notice how I didn’t paint the inside? Waste of time…I know my mom begs to differ, she’s probably horrified that I’m showing it to you unfinished!
My little nightstand that was the same color as the inside of the hutch. I painted it white and distressed it a bit then added a coat to furniture wax. I’m aware that I have a handle problem going on…
This dresser was painted a horrible horrible faux wood when it was given to me by my best friend Karla. I painted it white (shocking!) and added the black handles for a brand new look. It sits at the bottom of our stairs in the basement with some of our beach glass finds.
This is where you will find me any night of the week. It’s quiet and cozy and I feel like we are in our own little world when we are down there. Actually that’s where the good t.v. is and truth be told, I cannot live without my shows. I wouldn’t be the person I am today without all of those hours of useless, uninformative, trash t.v. In fact, I’ve already missed the first seven minutes of Chicago Fire, gotta run!
