A few pictures from around the house this Xmas…
Remember this sign from my last post? Well, I’ve been busy making some (eight in all) of my own version of these.
Here are the first two finishes that I made. I chose to use plywood and I distressed them a little bit and added some wood stain to age them a bit. I finished them off with some furniture wax and that’s pretty much it.
This is a sign that I wanted to make to incorporate these two colors into the Xmas decor around the house. I love the look of teal/aqua with a nice bright red and I had seen a very similar sign on Pinterest so I used a piece of wood I had on hand and once again made my own version. I love the way it turned out.
I’m not sure if it’s because we are in a different house this year or because I am feeling more festive, but I want to put my Xmas tree up now. I am going to wait until after November 11th in respect for all the Veterans out there but it’s not easy.
I picked up some new ornaments yesterday, most of which came from the Dollar Store (stayed on budget) and I got the others at Canadian Tire and The Superstore (no tax day). I want to change the “look” of the tree this year but I did not want to spend a ton of money doing so. I knew that I wanted to add a teal/turquoise color (always been one of my favorites) with all the red that I purchased last year. I’ve surfed around all kinds of blogs and I just love the color combination of the teal and red together. Anyway…I am dying to see it all together.
I also made a stop at a second-hand store and was able to score this old glass insulator in the perfect teal color and a vintage Mason jar for $10.
No tree is complete without the traditional Xmas ball ornaments especially when they look like glass but will not shatter when I drop them, which is inevitable! They were $1/pack of four. So let’s add up my ornament purchases yesterday. Seven glass owls $14, three wooden white owl $9, Eighteen glitter ornaments $3, Twelve glitter ball ornaments $3…for a grand total of $29!
Last but not least…I am making at least 8 of these this weekend. I am not sure what I will do with all of them, probably sell some but I can’t come to a definitive price in my head. The sign is made from plywood and measures 12″X48″. What would you pay for it? Leave me a comment and let me know. I have an idea what I would charge but I’d like some feedback to see if people are on the same page as I am.
